Right after he got the part of Maynard, Bob was cast in his first movie
"A Private's Affair"

Bob's Take:
"It was one of those B movies the Fox Studio churned out in the late fifties. The plot centered
around the hijinks of a bunch of soldiers. It starred Sal Mineo, Gary Crosby, Barbara Eden and
me, most of us under contract to the studio. I only had a few scenes, but one of them was with
Jim Backus, who played a visiting senator with all the bluster and pompousness you would expect.
When I reminded him about it five years later when we were shooting "Gilligan's Island", he
looked at me and said, "That was you?" I knew he didn't remember doing the scene with me
It may have been my first movie, but it was just another forgettable film to Jim!
