“Riding for Fallen Service Heroes” with U.S. Senator Joe Manchin
What a privilege to spend Flag Day, June 14th, sharing a Harley with U.S. Senator Joe Manchin “Riding for Fallen Service Heroes” in support of the West Virginia National Guard. This event raised 35,000 dollars for the Guard, whose service to our state goes far beyond being there in times of emergency.
I’ve had the honor of accompanying our Adjutant General James Hoyer on a trip to Camp Dawson where the Guard operates Challenge Academy. The Academy helps at-risk young people get their lives back on track and, honestly, I’ve never met a finer group, staff and students.
A VIP tour of the National Guard’s Center for National Response (CNR), previously WV’s Memorial Tunnel, was an eye opener for me. Prior to my tour I had no idea that first responders from all over the world come to the CNR for anti-terrorist training.
Our WV National Guard also works with families of fallen service heroes through their Gold Star Families program, the beneficiary of the 35,000 dollars raised on Flag Day.
The Denver Foundation is proud of our association with the WV National Guard, proud to support and promote the work they do on a daily basis to better the lives of citizens all over our great state.
I know Bob would be proud!
